Error: “PostCSR failed with error: Value does not fall within the expected range”

Symptom:

While renewing a certificate using Microsoft Certificate Authority (MS CA) there is an error at stage 500:

PostCSR failed with error: Value does not fall within the expected range.

Clicking Load on the CA template object returns an error:

Communication with the CA has failed, please check the settings before trying again. System error: CcertAdmin::GetCAProperty: The parameter is incorrect. 0x80070057 (WIN:32:87)

Cause:

The configured Service Name in the MS CA template is incorrect.

Resolution:

Correct the Service Name setting in the MS CA template. The correct Service Name can be viewed on the MS CA using Certification Authority MMC snap-in.
