Error: Certificates in "specified cryptographic algorithm is not supported on this platform." status

Symptom

One or more certificates are all in error with the status "specified cryptographic algorithm is not supported on this platform."

Cause

This error is caused when the server where the Venafi Trust Protection Platform service is running is shutdown or restarted. The error occurs during shutdown because when we try to generate a SHA256 hash as part of the process to lock an object for processing the .NET framework returns this error because it is shutting down.
