Error: "System error: CCertAdmin: GetCAProperty: The RPC server is unavailable. 0x800706b (WIN32: 1722)" is displayed when trying to communicate with a Microsoft CA

Trust Protection Platform 14.2 and above

Symptoms:

When trying to either retrieve certificate templates or enroll against an Microsoft CA, it fails with the error message "Communication with the CA has failed, please check the settings before trying. System error: CCertAdmin: GetCAProperty: The RPC server is unavailable. 0x800706b (WIN32: 1722)"

Cause:

This error is likely due to a problem with the credentials used to communicate with the Microsoft CA.

Resolution:

  1. Check the credentials are in the UPN format or DOMAIN\Username format
  2. Check if the credentials have the correct permissions (see this KB for more information)
