How To: Change SQL Time Out Value

Summary: 

This article will cover how to change the SQL Time out value for the Venafi services.

 

Troubleshooting for users that experience an "Execution Timeout Expired" error while on the SQL server. Please take note that this should be done on all Venafi servers. 

 

More Info: 

On some occasions, it is necessary to increase the SQL Time out value. By default, this value is set to 90 seconds.

This would be recommended if for example, the below error messages appears in the Default SQL channel.

Error Code:

Execution Timeout Expired.  The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.; InnerException "System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception"

 

In order to change the value proceed as follows:

NOTE: Before proceeding, make a backup of you registry entries. Those steps would need to be performed on all Venafi servers, if you want the same time out value to be applied.

1. Open the registry editor

2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Venafi\Platform

3. In regedit, right click and create Dword value (32 bits)

4. Name it "SQL TimeOut"

5. Click on the the new data and change the the value to the required value. Make sure you select decimal

        Note: The value is in seconds.

7. Save all changes

8. Restart all Venafi services, including IIS
